Kountry Wayne didn’t originally plan to pursue comedy, but his gift led to an empire that brought him millions of dollars.
The Georgia native admitted that when he entered the content and entertainment space, business was always his priority “from day one,” he said on the “Earn Your Leisure” podcast. He acknowledged comedy “was just a gift” that he knew “how to monetize.”
While Wayne began uploading skits more aggressively in 2020, he recognized audiences’ desire for storytelling, leading him to expand beyond skits into series. On “Earn Your Leisure,” he confirmed that he posts at least 40 videos daily on Facebook and YouTube, with the assistance of 14 producers.
Wayne now has 11 million followers on Facebook. He noted that the older crowd is his loyal audience on the platform. He claims he generates 1 billion page views on Facebook and nearly 80 million on YouTube, where he has 657,000 subscribers.
“I’m the No. 1 page in the world on Facebook. I got the most engagement in the culture on anything. I could go tic tac with anybody. Ain’t no TV show or nothing. They got more engagement. They watching me every day,” Wayne said on “Earn Your Leisure.” “I know I’m getting the views. So eventually even the money I’m getting is peanuts to what I feel like coming.”
Wayne also revealed that he earns eight figures a year from creating content.
Wayne sees himself in a similar light to Tyler Perry, a billionaire who is creating his own shows and movies at the largest Black-owned studio in Atlanta, which he owns, as AFROTECH™ previously reported.
“I just seen Tyler Perry. I told him it’s the Tyler Perry model. It’s just that he did the studio route versus I created a mini network. I’m Tyler Perry if he would have had a network, because that mean he wouldn’t have to wait on Netflix and I’m posting when I feel like it,” he said.
Launching an App
Next, Wayne plans to launch an app featuring movies tailored to Black audiences. He says it will be a smaller version of Netflix.
