PayPal Inc. will forgo an estimated $30 million in processing fees for roughly $1 billion in transactions as part of a settlement resolving a U.S. Justice Department probe into the company’s diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives. The investigation stemmed from allegations that PayPal violated federal civil rights laws through its Economic Opportunity Fund, an initiative launched in 2020 and designed to support Black and minority-owned businesses, according to a news release. Inside The PayPal-DOJ Settlement Under the settlement, PayPal agreed to launch a new Small Business Initiative that excludes eligibility criteria based on race, national origin, or other protected characteristics. The program will waive processing fees for qualifying American small businesses that are veteran-owned or operate in farming, manufacturing , or technology industries. “This Department of Justice is delivering on President Trump ‘s vow to root out illegal DEI from every corner of corporate...

Stan Store is an all-in-one, creator-focused e-commerce platform, according to its website. For his submission video sharing his dream, Roache spotlighted his company, Creative Minds, a Christian-led retreat that brings creators together for several weeks to focus on connection — an element that has been central to his journey into content creation from the very beginning. “Creation as a whole, being a creative person and trying to pursue that over standard living, is very uncommon. It’s very, very, very lonely,” Roache shared in an interview with AFROTECH™. “So I wanted to talk about the pursuit of finding people who are more similar. It’s the one thing that I think is kind...

The foundation reports that many Black-owned businesses continue to face challenges securing loans, grants, or investment funding. To address this, it connects entrepreneurs to micro-grants and loan programs, community financial institutions, credit-building tools, and capital-readiness training intended to support growth and hiring. Training and technical assistance are another key part of the foundation’s work. Through...

Silent churn is one of the biggest threats to small businesses , often going unnoticed until it significantly impacts revenue. Unlike active churn, where customers cancel their subscriptions or explicitly stop purchasing, silent churn happens gradually. Customers disengage, reduce usage, or stop buying without officially severing ties, leading to a slow decline in business performance. Identifying silent churn early allows owners and entrepreneurs to take proactive steps to re-engage customers before they are lost entirely. Recognizing The Early Signs Of Silent Churn Silent churn does not happen overnight. It begins with small shifts in customer behavior . If ignored, these shifts lead to long-term disengagement. One of the most common signs is a decline in customer interaction. Warning signals include: users logging in less frequently, reducing their purchases, or spending less time engaging with emails and content. A drop in feature usage or product engagement is another...

Editorial Note: Opinions and thoughts are the author’s own and not those of AFROTECH™. Trump’s tariffs have upended multiple industries. For bigger companies like Apple and Microsoft, or fast fashion behemoths like Zara, tariffs can be easily avoided by moving their distribution elsewhere. But for smaller businesses that don’t possess the same infrastructure, they don’t have that ability. Most Americans would agree that manufacturing should come back to the United States. Over the past decades, companies have moved their work abroad to take advantage of lower wages and the lack of unions that protect workers from abuses. In short, it’s easier to take advantage of the cheap labor offered in other countries like China, Thailand, and Vietnam. The whole system is inherently problematic, especially when we look at how workers in the United States are constantly berated and not treated properly. Moving manufacturing back to the states will also mean, unfortunately, that prices for goods...
