Whoopi Goldberg wants to open doors for other authors.

The actress, comedian, and co-host of “The View” is also an author, with her most recent work being a memoir titled “Bits & Pieces: My Mother, My Brother, and Me,” published by Blackstone Publishing. It was released in May 2024 and became a New York Times and USA Today bestseller, honoring her late family members and recognizing her upbringing in a New York City housing project, which played a part in her success, according to commentary from Gayle King on “CBS Mornings.”

“I used to take the bus for 15 cents … You go wherever, but my mother, what you have to know about her is she was interested in everything. She wanted to know what was out there, too. She, I think, always felt that if she could expose us, we could find different things for ourselves,” Goldberg said on “CBS Mornings.”

WhoopInk

Goldberg has published more than 12 books, the Associated Press reports. She now wants to make it easier for others to do the same and has launched WhoopInk, an imprint in partnership with Blackstone Publishing that will open doors for “fresh, diverse new talent to the marketplace” across genres, notes the outlet. Goldberg will be “intimately involved” with the venture, from promotion to cover design.

What’s more, WhoopInk is already working with author Rick Bleiweiss, who is also a senior executive at Blackstone Publishing. The imprint intends to publish the next novel in his “Pignon Scorbion & the Barbershop Detectives” series, and Goldberg will also publish some of her own books, including a continuation of her memoir “Bits & Pieces” and a collaboration with her business partner, Tom Leonardis, reports AP News.

“I am personally looking forward to finding new authors, working with established authors, and bringing influential voices into this curated imprint,” Goldberg said in a statement, according to AP News.
