On February 1st, President Donald Trump signed an executive order to impose tariffs on America’s biggest trade partners: Mexico, Canada, and China. Canada and Mexico were supposed to face a 25% tariff, while China received a 10% tax. In response, Canada, Mexico, and China announced that they would retaliate by imposing their own tariffs on American goods. On February 10, China will hit the US with a 15% tariff on coal and a 10% tariff on crude oil, farm equipment, and some vehicles. The Trump administration has prioritized tariffs as a key policy focus, despite warnings from economic experts about their potential negative impact on the economy. Many voters supported Trump due to his economic promises, but since taking office, several of his policy decisions have contributed to rising costs of living. The gender gap in the tech industry has long sparked conversation. Thanks to two executives, the conversation just got more upbeat. In a recent TechCrunch article , Girls in Tech Founder and CEO Adriana Gascoigne revealed that progress is happening, and for one reason : revenue generation. Citing a 2017 study conducted by the Boston Consulting Group, Gascoigne revealed that due to innovation, companies with diverse management teams have 19 percent higher revenue. That discovery may cause many tech shops to pursue diversity initiatives more assiduously. Maddox Events co-founder Michaela Jeffery-Morrison would agree that tech companies need to do more. When it comes to the tech industry, Silicon Valley has long reigned as the place to be. However, new research shows things may now be changing. A report by the Brunswick Group has found that Silicon Valley is having difficulties locating new workers, and this may cause issues for the area’s future. For the report, the Brunswick Group surveyed 300 tech workers employed in Silicon Valley in order to understand the industry’s health, market opportunities, impending threats and more. Researchers found that 74 percent of tech workers expect China to be the most serious rival to the San Francisco Bay Area. Respondents also named Austin, Texas, to most likely rival within the United States. This should come as no surprise, especially with Amazon now expanding its Austin Tech Hub .
